Author and journalist Jolien Janzing was diagnosed with MS in 2002, told the disease was incurable and would inevitably lead to decline. Afraid of ending up in a wheelchair and driven by care for her teenage children, she avoided regular medication and used a food diary to investigate how nutrition affected her complaints.
Her years-long search led to a strict ancestral or paleo diet: step by step she cut out gluten, dairy, alcohol, grains, legumes and nightshades, and now lives mainly on meat, fish, animal fats, specific vegetables and berries. Thanks to this pattern she has been symptom-free for 23 years, has more energy than before her diagnosis and needs no medication. In her book OerFood she shares her story to inspire other chronically ill people to take control themselves.
