When Lizette Tabak was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in early 2019, she immediately refused to start medication: her excess weight was the clear cause, so that was what she wanted to tackle at the root. After covid temporarily set her back with lingering complaints and fatigue, she found her motivation precisely there and joined the foundation's online support group "Diabetes 2 Doorbreken".
With the tips and the weekly support of the community, she turned things around: out went pasta, bread, potatoes and packet foods; in came fresh, whole food with plenty of vegetables, and she took up walking and running — she is now even training for a half marathon. After a year and a half she was 24.5 kilos lighter and her blood sugar was stable and under control, without medication. Now, as an expert by experience, she helps others in her community live more healthily.
